Our sustainability journey began with a desire to minimise our impact on the planet whilst becoming as self-sufficient as possible. We have a homestead in the Welsh Mountains where we try to work in partnership with nature to provide for our needs. Along that journey we started taking an interest in what was in the products that we put in and on our bodies, and that of our pets. We also looked at where we could eliminate or reduce packaging from our daily lives. As our awareness increased, so too did our motivation to seek out natural and ethical alternatives where we could be confident of the source and traceability of our personal care products. We hand crafted and perfected a range of beautiful goods and found that they were hugely popular with friends and family so we decided to set up Sustainable Soapery and Skincare. Sustainable soaps, hair and skincare that doesn’t cost the earth.

In developing our product range and specific formulas, we believe that less is more. We aim to use the minimum ingredients necessary to achieve the purpose of the product, without compromising on quality. You will not find any gimmicks, artificial colours or fragrances or miracle claims. We are fully insured and all our products designed for humans have been independently assessed and CPSR certified by a qualified chemist. Our pet products meet the same standards even though they are not regulated in the same way. We operate Good Manufacturing Practice and aim for zero waste in all our operations. By utilising 100% natural ingredients this will mean that colours and scents may vary slightly and the products may feel or perform slightly differently to what you are used to. That is quite normal! We are not adding chemicals to create voluminous bubbles because that is how we have been conditioned to judge cleanliness, for example. Our raw materials have been carefully selected to ensure superior quality with the least environmental impact and all are certified cruelty free. You will not find soy, palm (or any of its derivatives), almond or avocado oils in any of our products despite their popularity and widespread use in the soap and cosmetic industry. Neither will you find petrochemicals, phthalates, parabens or sodium lauryl sulphates (SLS) present in any formula. Instead we choose renewable, traceable and sustainable natural ingredients from reputable suppliers. We source as locally as possible, choose fair trade and organic where available and buy in bulk to reduce the impact of shipping. Our packaging is designed to be recyclable, compostable or refillable. We encourage ‘bundling’ your purchases to reduce post and packaging as far as possible.
