My soap doesn’t smell strongly – why?
Answer :
All products that have a strong smell will be artificially scented using chemical fragrance oils. As we use only natural ingredients, we will add aromatherapy-grade essential oils primarily for their beneficial properties and secondarily for their subtle fragrance. There are strict limits for essential oil use and we work well within these parameters for your safety. As a result our products are either fragrance free or lightly fragranced. Please be aware that often ‘unscented’ generally means that a product has been chemically deodorised.
My soaps are not a uniform colour or shape – why?
Answer :
Products that have strong or bright colours will undoubtedly contain artificial colours. As our products contain only natural ingredients, any colouration will be subtle and may vary between batches and bars. Additionally, we produce soap the old fashioned way through cold process and hand poured methods rather than by machine and therefore the shape will be unique in every bar.
My soap has a powdery coating should I be concerned?
Answer :
Not at all! As we use only natural oils there is sometimes a variation in the ‘finish’ which may include an ash like appearance once cured. Many soap manufacturers remove this using alcohol or chemicals for aesthetic reasons however we just use a light steam. On occasion during transit a bar may be subject to extremes of temperature that affects the presentation and appearance. This is quite normal and will disappear with the first use. As a company aiming for zero waste we hope our customers understand, however if the soap is a gift for example or if you are simply not satisfied please let us know and we will be happy to arrange a replacement.
I can buy soap from a supermarket for a fraction of the cost; why are handmade soaps so expensive.
Answer :
Precisely because they are handmade and not churned out in a factory setting; a good deal of time and care goes into every bar. We do not use chemicals to create artificial bubbles or to cure and harden bars faster. All ingredients are ethically sourced and cruelty free which sometimes means paying a little extra but with much lower cost to the planet.
Why isn’t every product vegan?
Answer :
We believe in consumer choice and many animal by-products such as beeswax can be locally, organically and sustainably sourced where many vegan alternatives such as Soy or Carnauba have a greater carbon footprint and have been associated with deforestation and non-ethical practices. We have vegan options available and fully support the ethics of veganism but our ethos is sustainability and we try to limit how far our oils, butters and waxes have to travel.
